Fine Antiques
Eclectic is the best description for the fine antique furniture and accessories lots. More than 30 Persian rugs, two Boulle style commodes, circa 1850; an 18th century round WOOD drop leaf table; a pair of rather large table lamps made from Campagna style terra cotta urns; and a satinwood Sheraton bow front demi-lune buffet. A pair of seductive Chippendale style gilt wood mirrored wall sconces are on the block, as well as a MUSIC BOX DETAILS. In the Orient style are a nest of three English tea tables, a red lacquer Chinese cabinet and a red lacquer Chinese trunk.
Fine Art
Examples of the fine art featured in the auction are Washington Landscape School artist Max Weyl’s 1898 “Virginia Landscape”; George Armfield’s YEAR “TITLE” and six Impressionist Ruth Greer oils featuring her Parisian cityscapes. Five oil paintings by Western artist G. Harvey will be auctioned as well as an oil painting by Alain Raya Sorkine.

Home Is Where the Heart Is, a charity auction to benefit the Boys and Girls Country of Houston, Inc., featured new name-brand furniture from a 20,000 square foot estate, contributed by a family benefactor that wants to remain anonymous. Interior Designer Bill Stubbs was the Honorary Chair of the fundraiser. Thank you all for making this such a memorable event!

Lewis & Maese’s Wednesday, May 5 auction includes over 200 lots of fine arts and antiques including pieces from two prominent River Oaks (Houston) estates and inventory from a retired Austin antiques dealer. Art in the auction features pieces attributed to Wassily Kandinsky, Georges Braque, Raoul Dufy, Albert Gleizes, Ilya Chasnik, Arshile Gorky, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and Henri Matisse as well as works by other artists.
Also included is an impressive group of antique and reproduction furniture, lighting, mirrors, decorative accessories including carved figures, antique marble pedestals, bronzes, silver and glassware. Pieces date from the 17th Century forward.

This auction featured a very important collection of fine art by Salvador Dali, Marc Chagall, William Hook, Yaacov Agam, Herb Mears, Itzchak Tarkay, Leif Enevoldsen, Alvaro and Leroy Neiman. Also included were works attributed to Paul Cezanne, Fernand Leger, Jean Cocteau, Adolf Hoelzel, Arshile Gorky, Ivan Kliun, Olga Rozanova, Ilya Chasnik, Albert Gleizes, Sonia Delaunay, Willem De Kooning, Jean Metzinger and Lajos Kassak.
The auction also featured a rare and exceptional collection of animal trophies, including the full body of a lion, mounted zebras and a floor mounted giraffe among others. A collection of African bronzes from a private estate was also auctioned. Antiques included very fine furnishings such as a 1820's French mahogany fall front secretary, 1810 Regency wine cellaret, a period American pedestal dining table, c. 1840, American Empire chest of drawers, 18th C. French buffet, Chinese Ancestral portraits, pair of antique Bay of Naples paintings. Italian rock crystal chandelier, Brunswick pool table, large jade sculptures and other fine items of interest were also included in this auction.

This auction featured consignments from a Prominent River Oaks estate and others and included antique American, English and Continental furniture, pieces of faux bois and 20th Century pieces totaling over 220 unique items. Artwork included works attributed to Ivan Kliun, Jean Cocteau, Alberto Giacometti and Pablo Picasso and a collection of vintage French framed posters. Accessories included antique Chinese porcelain pieces, objects and carved figures, ancient Roman jars, bronzes, lanterns, many chandeliers and candelabra. Porcelain, china and crystal by Spode, Wedgwood and Limoges, fur coats and a nice selection of jewelry ensured that there was something for everyone in this sale.

Salvador Dali, Henri Matisse, Harmensz van Rijn, Paul Sandby, Thomas Gainsborough, Larry Bell and Charles Schorre.
This important auction also included the works of German artist Arthur Muller, circa 1922-1968. During World War II, Mr. Muller, who was a high profile dissenter, was arrested and incarceratedin a concentration camp from 1943-1945. Mr. Muller’s haunting drawings from that era have survived and these works were part of this auction.
